The Whitley County School District, established in 1818, serves around 4,000 students in preschool through grade 12. The district includes one primary school, one intermediate school, five elementary schools, one middle school, one high school, one alternative school, and an online school, Colonel Academy. The district continues to prosper, bringing the latest technology, resources, and facilities to our community.

The Whitley County School District is committed to high levels of achievement for all students. In the 2024-2025 academic year, the district demonstrated strong performance across all levels, earning an overall Blue rating-the highest level of distinction for a Kentucky school system. Collectively, the district's seven elementary schools ranked 7th out of 172 districts statewide, placing Whitley County in the top 4% of schools in Kentucky. The middle school ranked 25th in the state, and Whitley County High School ranked 27th among Kentucky high schools based on the 2024-2025 Kentucky Summative Assessment, reflecting strong proficiency and growth. The high school also achieved a graduation rate of 95.5%, significantly exceeding the national average of 86.5%, and provides students with access to over 16 Career Pathways, as well as Advanced Placement (AP) and dual credit opportunities.
